WHY ISRAEL?

Because God’s reputation is at stake. In Genesis 12, God made a covenant with Abraham. It was an everlasting covenant and He confirmed it to Isaac and to Jacob.

GOD PROMISED TO RESTORE ISRAEL

It is not in God’s character to go back on His promises. Man’s faithlessness does not nullify the faithfulness of God.

God is faithful.

Paul confirmed God’s faithfulness to Israel:

  • I ask, then, has God rejected his people? By no means! (Romans 11:1)
  • When we are faithless, He remains faithful— for He cannot deny Himself. (II Timothy 2:13)
  • For I tell you that the Messiah has become a servant of the Jews on behalf of God’s truth, so that the promises made to the patriarchs might be confirmed. (Romans 15:8)
  • ...the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable. (Romans 11:29)

ONE GOD, ONE PEOPLE

If you have faith in the Messiah of Israel, you have been adopted into the family of God and share in the rich root of the Olive Tree.

You, although a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among others and now share in the nourishing root of the olive tree, so do not be arrogant toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you. (Romans 11:17-18)

THE GENTILES AND ISRAEL’S RESTORATION

Despite the controversy over the Messiah’s identity, the early followers of Jesus believed that one day Israel would welcome their Messiah.

And now the Lord says, who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant, to bring Jacob back to Him… Indeed He says, ‘It is too small a thing that you should be My Servant To raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles, that You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.’ (Isaiah 49:5-6)

Through Israel, light has come to the world in the form of God’s mercy. Through the Gentiles showing Israel the same mercy, Israel’s ongoing restoration becomes a blessing to the whole world.
